modelsFor our final meeting of the year we will be holding our annual "Dinner with Models"...economic models that is. For those of you who have not participated in this event in the past, it's basically a dinner with the Economics Professors.

Dinner will be Monday, April 13th at 6pm at The Green Well which is located about 6 minutes east of the Pew Campus. Directions are available here.

To RSVP, please fill out this form no later than 8pm this Thursday. It's also accessible by clicking on the "Dinner" tab running across the top of our website.

The menu and dinner prices are available here.

e-Board Election results were as follows:

  • President: Patricia Sáenz
  • Vice President: Brian Bakker
  • Treasurer: Alex George
  • Secretary: Keith Brooks
  • VP of Campus Relations: David Boruta

Congratulations to everyone! It has been my pleasure to serve you in my capacity as President over the past two and half years; we've had some great experiences and even better friendships. In closing, I’ll leave you with a quote that I try every day to live by; Mark Twain has been purported to have penned the following:

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

I wish you success in all your future endeavors!

Sincerely,
Nathan

G20 Decision and Annual Elections PDF Print E-mail
Written by Nathan Biller

It has been a while since a regular meeting; however, tomorrow's meeting (6pm, 302C) is a crucial one. We'll be holding our annual officer's elections. The following individuals have thus far indicated their intent to run:

President: Patricia Sáenz, Alex George
Vice President: Brian Bakker
Secretary: Kristi Hall
Treasurer: Keith Brooks, Alex George
VP of Campus Relations: David Boruta

Keith's Bio: I was treasurer of the Multi-Racial Student Association for about two years, and I was also vice president of Dangerous Minds for two years also. I like dealing with numbers and plan to get a graduate degree in accounting. My current major is public adminstration so I can engage in community service.

Just because you're not on this list doesn't mean you can't run. If you're interested in running for one of the positions, please check out the responsibilities in our 'Constitution' under the 'About Us' section at www.gvsuECONclub.com

Along with Elections we'll also be discussing the G20 Communiqué that was issued last week. The original is availalbe here, but there are also many other places that have provided coverage: the WSJ provides a running commentary, a review from Forbes, and a discussion from the New York Times.

Of course, this naturally brings up the topic of what exactly is the IMF:

We also still need more volunteers to help with the Economic & Business Historical Society's Annual meeting this year at the Amway Hotel in downtown GR. We'll be working with Professor Giedeman who is in charge of organizing this conference.

The two most important times we can help out are Thursday from 7:30 until about 4:00 and Friday from about 7:30-12:00. If you'd like to attend and are willing to help out, please let me know ASAP. Anyone who volunteers gets to attend the conference sessions for free. You can reply to me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or e-mail Professor Giedeman directly at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Conferences

Hyatt

We do our very best to attend a professional annual conference; this year we will be attending the Midwest Economics Association's Annual Meeting at the Hyatt Regency in Chicago, Illinois. Additionally we will be taking a tour through Morningstar as well as visiting the Chicago Board of Trade and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.

Round Tables

We participate in round tables hosted at Grand Valley! In the past the Investment Portfolio Organization has hosted various round tables; in recent years they have extended an invitation to the Economics Club to participate in the lively discussion between local experts and students. We hope to continue sharing this exciting evening in future years.

Discussions
At periodic intervals throughout the year we will gather as a group to discuss different economic events; examples would include meeting prior to the FOMC meetings and discussing the whys and hows of what they're likely to do. Additionally we will at times focus on select works of the Nobel Laureates in Economics and discuss their findings and its relevance.
