Meeting Minutes

January 26th and February 2nd

The 2nd concluded a two-part meeting on the discussion on Barack Obama's healthcare plan with debate ranging from the viability of socialized medicine to whether or not healthcare is a right or a privilage.  Debate was based off of President Obama's healthcare plan as posted on his website, the CATO Institute's view on that plan and Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt.

The links to those documents are listed below.

You can visit http://www.barackobama.com/issues/healthcare/ for a brief summary which also links to a pdf with President Obama's entire plan.

Also of interest in a summary of a study on healthcare done by the Rand Corporation study at: http://www.rand.org/pubs/research_briefs/2006/RAND_RB9174.pdf

The Cato Institute has also put together their inimitable viewpoint in one of their briefing papers:
http://www.cato.org/pub_display.php?pub_id=9679

Also of note: The deadline for applying to attend the Cleveland Conference (March 20-22) is Friday Feb 6th by 5pm.  In addition to attending the conference we will also be setting up a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleavland. From what I've heard, their tour puts District 7 (Chicago's) to shame.  The link to the application is available under Midwest Connections '09.

Next week we will be holding elections for the position of VP of Campus Relations.
